The Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) offers 24/7 mobile support for individuals experiencing mental health or substance use-related crises.

Child & Family Team Meetings

What is a Child and Family Team?

Child and family team means a group of individuals who are organized by the placing agency and who are engaged through a variety of team-based processes to identify the strengths and needs of the child or youth and their family, and to help achieve positive outcomes for safety, permanency, and well-being.

How the Child and Family Team support the family through meetings

  • Providing input into the development of a child and family plan that is strengths-based, needs-driven, and culturally relevant.
  • Providing input into the placement decision made by the placing agency and the services to be provided to support the child or youth.

Visitation for your case will be decided by the court and facilitated by your social worker. Visitation can feel overwhelming or intimidating, especially at first. The LINK Family Resource Center

  • North County S.A.F.E.: Brings together families and service providers to create coordinated plans that support safety, stability, and success. Teams may include school staff, social workers, and behavioral health partners.

Seneca Family of Agencies

Offers a range of supportive services for birth parents navigating the child welfare system. Their programs are designed to promote family reunification, provide mental health support, and strengthen family bonds.

Services:

  • Family Reunification Support: Seneca’s permanency programs prioritize reunifying children with their birth families whenever possible. They work closely with resource families to support and maintain relationships with birth parents, even in cases where adoption becomes the goal.
  • Mental Health Services: The Atascadero clinic provides counseling and therapy for children and families affected by foster care, adoption, or guardianship. Services include individual and family therapy, early intervention programs, and counseling for birth families.
  • Parent Education and Training: Seneca provides various trainings and support groups to equip parents with the tools needed for successful parenting and navigating the child welfare system

The Center for Family Strengthening

A nonprofit organization in San Luis Obispo County dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect by empowering families through education, advocacy, and community partnerships. As the county’s designated Child Abuse Prevention Council, CFS offers a variety of free programs and services designed to build resilience and promote family well-being.

Market Match

Market Match is a program funded through the California Department of Agriculture that allows individuals to use their CalFresh/EBT at some of the SLO County Farmers Markets and matches up to $15 in Market Match tokens! Loaves & Fishes is a non-profit organization located in Paso Robles that provides groceries and assistance to persons in need. CalWORKs

CalWORKs Homeless Assistance Program

CalWORKs Homeless Assistance Program provides temporary and permanent housing assistance for eligible families.

  • Services: Temporary shelter payments for up to 16 consecutive days, assistance with security deposits, last month’s rent, and utility deposits, support for families facing eviction or homelessness.
  • Eligibility: Families must meet CalWORKs eligibility requirements.

Housing Support Program (HSP)

Housing Support Program (HSP) is a CalWORKs program that aims to support families experiencing housing instability.

  • Services: Provides rental assistance, security deposits, utility help, and temporary shelter. Additionally, offers housing search support and ongoing case management.
  • Eligibility: Must be a CalWORKs participant. Available through the County of SLO Department of Social Services.

Bringing Families Home

A program offered through the County of SLO that provides support to families involved with the Child Welfare System such as:

  • Assitance with finding and keeping stable housing
  • Rental assistance, move-in costs, and short-term shelter

The program prioritizes families who are houseless or at immediate risk. Bringing Families Home uses a “housing first” model to support reunification and prevent Child Welfare System entry and re-entry.

Early Learning Centers 

Early Learning Centers by California State and First 5 SLO offer child education programs through the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education. The Child Education Program includes:

  • Curriculum geared towards physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and creative development
  • Breakfast or a nutritious snack provided through the Child Care Food Program
  • Teacher-planned activities

Rehab Services

Recovery is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone. This page connects you to local treatment and rehab services that support your healing and your goals as a parent.

Adult Substance Use Treatment

This service provides a full array of treatment options for adults (18 years and older) experiencing substance use issues.
Please contact the access line at 1 (800) 838-1381 for information or to schedule an appointment. All services are available in Spanish.

Who is eligible?

  • All adult residents of San Luis Obispo County are welcome to use the walk-in screening service.  After the screening, recommendations provided will suggest treatment service options.

Is there a charge for this service?

  • There is no cost for the screening service. The majority of services are provided under Medi-Cal. For participants who do not have Medi-Cal, they will help check for eligibility and help with the navigation of a referral for substance use treatment, if you have private insurance.
  • Some services may be covered under other funding sources such as a CWS referral or specialized grants.  Please ask when applying for services if that may be an option for you.

Drug & Alcohol Residential Programs

Drug and Alcohol Services provides Residential Treatment or Sober Living Environments for higher-levels of care. Clients have been assessed as needing highly structured Residential Treatment or Sober Living Environments. Gender-specific, sober living environments create a structured and nurturing living arrangement which foster a safe place utilizing the peer-to-peer concept of recovery principles. 

Who is eligible?

  • Anyone that has been diagnosed with a substance use disorder and has the proper assessed level of care can use this service.

Is there a charge for this service?

  • Each independently operated Sober Living Environment is contracted with County of San Luis Obispo for a specific rate ranging from $35/day to $55/day. There may be funding available through specific grant sources as well as self-pay. Clients may reside in different areas of the County, from Oceano to Paso Robles.
